Group dated observations by month and place. Record nights when you looked but saw nothing as well as successful sightings. These notes describe your visits; they do not establish the total moth population.

Keep the finished note with its date and source material. Return to it when you repeat the exercise, and add what changed rather than replacing the earlier observation.
